South West Hampshire LIFT supports conservation of Hospital Chapel
20th October 2009
SWH LIFT is pleased to have joined ‘Friends of RSH Chapel’ as a corporate sponsor. The Royal South Hants Hospital Chapel is located next to the Fanshawe Wing on the hospital campus, a short walk from SWH LIFT’s current building project, Antelope House.
The Chapel was built in 1857 to serve patients and staff at the hospital. It is a Grade II Listed building which was closed in 1998 having fallen into disrepair. In 2008, work was commissioned by Southampton Primary Care Trust to make the roof water and pigeon proof. Even more recently, the west-facing wall exposed following the demolition of an adjoining hospital wing has undergone repair works in the last few weeks.
“South West Hampshire LIFT chose to support the ‘Friends of RSH Chapel’ to demonstrate its support for the restoration of this building,” stated Peter Dean, General Manager. “We would love to see this historic building once again becoming a functional part of the RSH campus.”
